I’ve been too busy the last month to work on creating a windows+L shortcut for Mac OS, but I thought I would go ahead and publish part two of my list of shortcuts that make my life so much better anyway.
You can find part one here.
————————————–
command + e
select a drive such as a flashdrive or DMG installer image on your desktop or in finder then use this command to unmount it (UNIX speak for ejecting it)
————————————–
command + delete
select item and press this to send it to the trash bin
————————————–
command + shift + delete
empty trash
————————————–
command + i
highlight a file, drive, directory, etc and then use this command to bring up the information window.
————————————–
command + z
this is a great one. If you accidentally move, rename, delete, etc to a file this will undo it. press command + z again and it will redo the operation. Similar in nature to Photoshop CS3.
————————————–
command + t
select a file, folder, smart folder, or program and use this to add it to the sidebar in finder.
————————————–
shift + command + n
this will create a new folder
————————————–
option + command + n
this will create a new smart folder.
————————————–
One a side note if you don’t currently use smart folders you’re really missing out! These are folders that don’t actually hold any files. Instead you can setup parameters and it will search your system in real time for files that match them. Think iTunes smart playlists but for everything on your system. For example, I have a smart folder on my desktop which contains every php, html, js, and css file modified in my development workspace during the current day and have my ftp client send that folder up into the cloud in the evening so I know any work completed that day was uploaded.
Happy shortcutting
